Trend Insights
1. What lighting trends do you see emerging in interior design right now, and how do you
think they’ll evolve over the next year?
Right now, we’re seeing lighting move well beyond “practical” into “sculptural.
” Oversized
pendants, organic forms, and statement wall lights are being treated like artwork. Over the next
year, I think this trend will only grow. Lighting will continue to blur the line between function and
art, becoming a key feature that sets the tone of a space. I personally love finding an
opportunity to use lighting to layer a home in an artful way.
2. Are there any specific finishes, shapes, or materials in lighting that you think will be big
in the coming seasons?
Textured finishes are having their moment, think rattan, plaster, stone, and brushed metals. Soft
curves and dome shapes are also becoming popular, as they bring warmth and approachability.
3. How do you see lighting influencing other aspects of design, such as colour palettes or
furniture styles?
Lighting is one of my favourite design tools because it’s inherently architectural. The choice of
fittings can define a room’s character, following metal finishes, introducing contrast, or adding
texture through organic materials. A carefully considered pendant or wall light doesn’t just
illuminate, it enhances patterns, textures, and colour palettes, tying everything together. I love
how the right lighting adds depth, layers, and subtle personality, making a space feel complete
and effortlessly considered.
Tips & Tricks
4. What’s your number one tip for using lighting to instantly elevate a space?
My number one tip is to treat lighting as an architectural and layered element, not just
something that brightens a room. Think about how fixtures can introduce contrast, texture, and
subtle personality; metal finishes, organic materials, or sculptural shapes. The right lighting
instantly elevates a space by framing key features, enhancing textures and patterns, and giving
the room a sense of depth and intention.
5. Can you share a lighting ‘before and after’ that made the biggest transformation in a
room?
One of the biggest transformations at Lakeside Nords was in the dining nook. We swapped the
basic downlights for beautiful, rustic hanging pendants that instantly gave the space personality
and warmth. The pendants not only added architectural interest but also created a layered,
inviting atmosphere, making the nook feel like a destination rather than just a place to eat.
6. What are your top three tips for layering lighting in a home or commercial space to
achieve the perfect ambiance?1. Mix your sources – combine overhead, wall, and floor/table lighting for depth.
2. Always dim – flexibility is key to changing a room’s feel from day to night.
3. Think task vs. mood – direct light where you need it (kitchen island, desk) and soften it
everywhere else.
